Hands-on History Volunteer

We are seeking a volunteer to help the Visitor Experience (VE) team deliver a welcoming, engaging and memorable visit to all of our visitors.
Your role is to participate in the delivery of our Hands-on History carts – themed carts kitted out with items from the Museum’s handling collection. It will be integral to telling the story of Our Army and will support the delivery of our world-class visitor experience.
This is an interactive hands-on role, in which a highly enthusiastic person with an interest in the history of Our Army will thrive. Confidence in engaging with the public will be key. The opportunity is open to everyone aged 18 and over.
Collections Standards and Care Volunteer

We are seeking a volunteer to assist the Collections Standards and Care team with basic documentation and conservation tasks including (but not limited to): sewing padded hangers for uniforms; transcribing conservation reports; scanning collections information; improving collection descriptions; and labelling and repacking of collections.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role while gaining experience working with a national museum collection of historic importance.

If you are unsure about any of the roles, we can offer you a taster session so that you can decide if the role is suitable, without any further commitment from you.
Where we are unable to accommodate all volunteer applications, we will do our best to signpost you to other volunteering opportunities and organisations.
All volunteers will undergo a full induction and training programme, either prior to or at the beginning of the placement, and you will receive regular one-to-one support from a dedicated and trained volunteer supervisor throughout the placement.
Reasonable out-of-pocket travel and lunch expenses are paid.
