Robots to the rescue (Coding Mission)

School boy using block coding to control a Dash robot
Discover how robotic devices help the Army to support the work of soldiers. Then, working in teams, students will complete various coding missions using block-based programming and our Dash robots.

Can you use your coding skills to program a robot to complete an important mission?

Learners will be taught how to use Blockly to program our Dash robots.

Learners will develop an understanding of algorithms and how to input basic commands in a sequence to write simple programs. They will have the chance to detect and correct errors in their programs in order to complete each coding mission successfully.

Learners will work together in small groups to complete the tasks. Extension activities are available for more confident learners.

This workshop can be adapted to suit learners in either upper KS2 or lower KS2 classes.

This session is 60 minutes long and includes:

  • Hands-on coding
  • Problem solving
  • Group discussion
  • Team working
  • Historic photographs
  • Gallery visit and trails (optional)

Curriculum areas:

  • Computing
  • Maths
