'Soldier', the official magazine of the British Army, celebrates its 80th birthday in 2025.

Since its inception in March 1945, when it was launched by Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, the publication has covered every major conflict and issue shaping military life. It has been an indispensable guide for troops both at home and on operations – and continues to be at the forefront of the news affecting personnel and their families.

In this talk, editor Sarah Goldthorpe will look back through the publication's archive, highlighting some of the most iconic covers and articles from its history.
