Join us for a special Spotlight event to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Engineers winning the FA Cup.

In 1875, a football team from the Corps of Royal Engineers won the FA Cup, making this the only time a military team has won the competition. To celebrate this remarkable anniversary, the National Army Museum will be hosting a special day of activities showcasing both the Royal Engineers and Army Sport.

Formed in 1716, the Corps of Royal Engineers helps keep the British Army in the field by providing engineering and technical support. Known as ‘Sappers’, Royal Engineers have served in all of the Army’s campaigns. They will be showcasing some of their varied roles, from mine clearing to diving, and from brick laying to welding.

Highlights on the day will include real Royal Engineers divers showcasing the work they do under the waves, as well as a chance for you to get up close with some of the equipment and vehicles used by the Royal Engineers.

Alongside making your own dog tag and talking to soldiers about their experience of service, you’ll be able to explore the fascinating history of football in the British Army. The Army FA Archive is now housed at the National Army Museum.
